Should the Cell Phones Be Allowed in Schools?

The school shootings are really a frightening situation, which is unfortunately on rise. However, parents feel that if such situations arise, their children can call anyone for help. Most of the authorities in schools point out that during Columbine shootings in 1999, so many calls were made so that the entire cell phone systems was knocked out thus not only making children's cellphones useless but also the accident personnel's as well. Most of the educators feel that if significant situations arise, the accident teams and administrators will be able to deal with emergencies. Usage of cellphones in schools at the emergencies will lead up to many parents arriving at the scene whilst the officials are trying hard to evacuate the children.

Due to illegal drugs and many other gang connected activities, most of the schools have banned the usage of cellphones in schools. Due to the usage of phones, children would order the drugs during the class hours and the drugs could be delivered right at the end of the day. This will be helpful for the students as they will be away from their parents' eyes. Showing this type of examples, school authorities warn of using cellphones.

In case of bomb threats at schools, the threat would have been called from the cellphones as these devices can't be traced by the law enforcement officials and while some of the call turns out to be hoaxes. School officials don't approve usage of cellphones daily either. The complaints range from getting the class disturbed when a call comes or using it to get messages during test to cheat the school.

As the discussion between the concerned parents and the school authorities is raised, some of the school officials have recommend that they will let the children to use their cellphones. One of the ideas may be switching of their phones during the class, in hallways, can check out their voice mails and can in return call if needed. The other advice is allowing using only the accident calls and blocking out other calls.
